About 6 months ago, I decided to make a life change. I felt lethargic, unhealthy, and my BMI suggested I was anorexic for my height. It set alarm bells off for me as I am in my 30s and have a family history of hypertension and heart disease.
I have been working with Blake exclusively since the summer and have been extremely impressed with the results I have achieved with his help. I have gained about 25 pounds of muscle and significantly improved my cardiovascular health. Some might ask why should I spend the additional funds for a trainer vs. going to the Y or using programs like T25 or P90X. The reason I wanted to work with a trainer was because I like the one-on-one attention you won’t get at a big gym or lifting solo.
More importantly, working with a good trainer builds good workout practices (for instance not bending wrist when benching, not arching your back, etc.). This cannot be understated as onecan seriously hurt one’s self or perpetuate bad practices that could lead to more serious problems in the future. Blake’s insistence on technique has gotten him kudos from others and will ensure as a client you will also benefit from his years of experience working with all sorts of
folks.
Blake is an awesome motivator - he doesn’t mess around, is focused, and always a very good source of health information (providing valuable information about diet, post-session stretching, and dealing with the occasional injury that may arise during the course of workouts). Not to mention, as a fellow NPR listener, we always have something to talk about between different exercises.
He’s also very committed to his clients bending his own schedule to meet their needs. We have worked out on the weekends and late at night. I work from home and have a fair amount of autonomy in my schedule which makes it atypical, but I have seen Blake juggle his schedule relative to his other clients to cater to me. It’s been really appreciated!
Blake keeps the workouts fresh. We do everything from interval training to boxing, to traditional weightlifting, to incorporating crossFit exercises. The key for good results is to give your muscles new moves to keep the training sessions effective and fun. After all, you don’t want to get bored. I promise you will do stuff that you will never think of on your own :)
He’s also receptive to feedback. Like most guys, I like chest and arm days. He does his best to squeeze the occasional random set of benchpresses or cable crossovers. I also have a sick fascination (some may call it admirable) withcore/ab exercises. We make sure we do planks, leg raises or whatever he can incorporate or torture me with.
If you are scared or on the bubble to make the leap in undertaking an an exercise regime, I say take it! Nothing in life is easy that’s worth anything. Blake will be your trainer, motivator, and partner during your journey to a better you.
